Yesterday marked the long-awaited day, ever since the night between January 24 and 25, 2023, when a fire destroyed over 5,000 square meters of the company’s facility along the Romea highway in Ariano nel Polesine.
For 20 months, the company operated on two fronts: rebuilding the facility and maintaining production to stay competitive in a market where it stands among the leaders in fish product processing, with a pre-fire turnover of around €20 million.
The return to its historic location was celebrated with a double ribbon-cutting ceremony: first with local authorities, always close to the company, and then with the De Agostini family — the beating heart of Rivà’s and Ariano’s economy.
It was a deeply symbolic moment: celebrating both the company’s rebirth and its 40th anniversary, which couldn’t be properly honored earlier due to the fire.
CEO Marco De Agostini thanked everyone who contributed to the reopening of what is now a shining example of local entrepreneurship, bringing the name of a small Polesine village to the world.
“Thanks to everyone who helped us,” said Marco. “To Bierreti, who hosted us in their offices; to Ittica Villareggia, who provided their plant; to the Benazzi brothers for the warehouse; and to Regnoli, who went through a similar tragedy — we hope they can reopen soon.
Also to Grassi, Finpesca, Rivamar, and all the artisans who helped rebuild this company. Some, like Fregnan, even slept on-site. Thanks to the technical team led by Italo Passarella and to all employees and collaborators who worked in tight conditions for two years, never giving up.”
Mayor Luisa Beltrame compared the company to a phoenix: “It wasn’t a given that the family would choose to stay here — and yet they did.”
Massimo Barbin of Confindustria Veneto Est praised the “three generations of entrepreneurs” and the strong solidarity shown by local businesses right after the fire.
From the Veneto Region, Councillor Valeria Mantovan said: “You’re an example of strength, courage, and resilience. You rebuilt the company without leaving anyone behind.”
Cristiano Corazzari added: “This is the true spirit of the people of Polesine — they never give up.”
MP Nadia Romeo commended the family for “turning difficulty into opportunity,” and Senator Bartolomeo Amidei spoke of “love for one’s work and one’s land.”
Regional councillor Laura Cestari concluded: “Today we admire a technological gem, also in terms of sustainability, ready for an increasingly international market.”
The day began with a blessing by Bishop Pierantonio Pavanello: “From death came resurrection. We are here to thank the Lord and ask for his help for those who will work in this new facility.”
